Overview

Lumba Sumba pass Trek is newly opened eastern Nepal trekking route which provide wilderness trekking experience connecting Kanchenjunga and Makalu following the GHT Trail. Lumba Sumba Pass trek experience you an unique local traditional village Olangchung Gola, and Thudam with Superb views of Mount Makalu in the north and Kanchenjunga range in the East.

Lumba – Sumba trek traverses through one of the least frequented trails of eastern Nepal between lap of Himalayan giants, Kanchenjunga (8,586m) and Makalu (8,463m). This is an adventure treks which ascend through the Tamor River valleys of Taplejung and descends through the Arun River valleys of Sankhuwasabha. The area between Kangchenjunga and Makalu contains the two most important conservation areas (Kanchanjanga Conservation Area and Makalu Barun Conservation Area). This conservation area is  home to an amazing variety of birds and to the endangered red panda and snow leopard. Very few trekkers visit this area which is also populated by several of Nepal’s ethnic groups including Limbu, Sherpa (Bhotia), Rai, Gurung, Magar, Newar and Tamang peoples. This is a simply superb trekking holiday from Kangchenjunga across to to Makalu, following part of the Great Himalaya Trail (GHT) and crossing several high and remote passes.

This trek rewards the extreme remoteness, high altitude and most importantly combined experiences of nature, culture and adventure. In the first part of trek stretches through the pleasant walk along Tamor river valleys' the beautiful woods of colorful rhododendrons and diverse species of birds, the close views of Himalayan peaks in Kanchenjunga and Makalu Himalayan Ranges.

Lumba Sumba trek take you in depth of tremendous variety of spectacular scenery of Eastern Himalaya. After a short flight to Taplejung, we begin trekking through a landscape of deep folded river valleys containing sub-tropical forests and hillsides dotted with small villages, witnessing village life and emerald lines of rice terracing. Then after slowly gaining height, we tread through zones of barley and forests of rhododendron, juniper and pines to enter an alpine world of rough yak pastures where we are surrounded by the snowy peaks of the Himalaya. After spending a day at the otherworldly settlement of Olangchung Gola, we cross the Lumba Sumba Himal, the watershed between the Tamur and Arun river valleys, with mesmerizing mountain views from the several high passes. We end the trek with a gradual descent of the Arun Valley, returning to warmer climes and an agricultural landscape. Finally, from Tumlingtar, we fly back to Kathmandu.
