In this blog, I give you an idea of Jumla to Jomsom Trek of Western Nepal. Lets begin;

1.Jumla Jomsom Trek GHT high route via Rara Lake, Mugu Valley, and Upper Dolpo


This Jumla Jomsom Trek is one of the most adventurous, strenuous, and challenging treks in Nepal. It passes through Rara Lake and Mugu valley to Upper Dolpo, and finally to Jomsom.

In this trek, we follow the middle hills of Jumla and Mugu to Rara Lake. From Rara Lake the trail descends to Mugu Karnali river via Gamgadi and Ghat. Following three days along the Mugu Karnali river all the way to Shailenchaur through Lumsa, Pulu, Tiyar, and Ladheghat.

From Shailenchaur the trail treads into the wilderness for about 8 days conquering three passes; Chyargo La pass, Yala Pass, and Nyimaglazen La pass connecting Pho village.

From Pho village, the trail leads to Bhijer village through Patalchaur crossing Yumbur La pass. From here the trek connects to Saldang encountering Neng La pass. From Saldang there are two routes to Shimen village, one taking the further northern loop through Nisal village/Yanjer Gompa, and Musi Village to Shimen. Another direct route passes from Koma village to Shimen village. After Shimen village, the trail rolls into Panzang valley’s beautiful villages; ‘Phalwa and Tinje’. Further heading to the east along the Upper Panzang valley to Chharka village. The final part of the trek, after Chharka village treading through high alpine valleys of Mulumsuna and crossing the friendly Jungbenla pass, connects Santa. A day trek from Santa village the trip ends at Kaligandaki valley of Mustang ‘Jomsom’.

2. Jumla Jomsom Trek via Rara Lake, Namlang River, and Upper Dolpo
This Jumla Jomsom Trek is moderately little bit easier than the 1st Jumla Jomsom trek. In this trek, we follow the Mugu Karnali river up to Tiyar. From Tiyar we cross the Mugu Karnali River and we trace the Namlang river and cross the Jhonpala pass to Pho village.

From Pho village, the trail leads to Bhijer village through Patalchaur crossing Yumbur La pass. From here the trek connects to Saldang encountering Neng La pass. From Saldang there are two routes to Shimen village, one taking the further northern loop through Nisal village/Yanjer Gompa, and Musi Village to Shimen. Another direct route passes from Koma village to Shimen village. After Shimen village, the trail rolls along through Panzang khola in Panzang valley’s beautiful villages; ‘Phalwa and Tinje’. Further heading to the east along the Upper Panzang valley crossing Mo La pass next is Chharka village. The final part of the trek, after Chharka village treading through the high alpine valleys of Mulumsuna and crossing the friendly Jungbenla pass, connects Sangta. A day trek from Santa village the trip ends at Kaligandaki valley of Mustang ‘Jomsom’.

3. Jumla Jomsom Trek via Gothichaur, Phoksundo Lake and Upper Dolpo


This Jumla Jomsom trek is passing through the middles hills of Jumla Gothichaur to Lower Dolpo village Hurikot, Kaigaon. Beyond Kaigaon the trail leads through Kagmagar la Pass to magical Phoksundo Lake and Ringmo Bon village.

Beyond the Phoksundo Lake and Ringmo Bon village, the trail passes to the Shore of Phoksundo Lake along the forested valley of Kang La basecamp. Conquering Kang La pass the trail descend revered valley of Shey Gompa. From Shey Gompa, there are two route to Saldang, one traversing Tora/Tata, Samling Gompa, and Bhijer to Saldang and another leading across Shey La pass to Namgong Gompa and Saldang.
