YAK is a Himalayan domestic animal and it became companion for Himalayan people since many years back. Yaks are mostly used for carrying of loads, plowing of fields and making of tracks over the snow in the Himalaya. So, the Yaks play vital role in live of Himalayas.

In Upper Dolpo, Yaks play an important role in the daily live of Upper Dolpo people, they relying on Yaks for carrying of loads to plowing of field and riding to making tracks on snows. One of the most useful of this giant animal is in during the cross border trading. In the past, Dolpo Pa people travel along the herd of Yak ‘Caravan’. They to travel China border, trades salt with Tibetans and then the salt were brings to Lower Dolpo and exchanges/barter with grains. But in recent days the trend of salt grain trading had changed and now Upper Dolpo people go to a border with herds of Yak ‘Caravan’ along with Yarsagumba, sells Yarsagunba  to Tibetan and Upper Dolpo people buy modern Chinese confectionary, food stuffs, beverages and clothing back to Upper along with their ‘Caravan’.

Yak Caravan trek begins from Juphal to Dho Tarap, and after the Dho Tarap the trek stretches through Upper Dolpo and Shey Gompa and return back to Phoksundo Lake. In this trek take athe Yaks as our load carriers and make you feeling of Yak Caravan traders.

Itinerary

Day 01  Arrival in Kathmandu TIA and transfer to Hotel

Day 02: Fly from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and transfer to Hotel

Day 03: Fly from Nepalgunj to Juphal (2475m) and trek to Kageni/ Dunai (2140m)  3 hours.

Day 04: Dunai to Chhepka (2687m) 6 hours

Day 05: Chhepka- Chunuwar / Amchi Hospital (3000m) 6 hours

Day 06: Chunuwar / Amchi Hospital  to Phoksundo Lake (3600m) 5-6 hours

Day 07: Phoksundo Rest and exploring day

Day 08: Phoksundo to Sallaghari (3630m) 5-6 hours trek

Day 09: Sallaghari to Nangdala HC 4717m 5-6 hours trek

Day 10: Nangdala HC to Shey Gompa( 4343m) crossing Nangdala pass (5350m) 5-6hours

Day 11: Shey Gompa to  Namgung Gompa (4360) crossing Shey La Pass (5100m)  6-7 hours

Day 12: Namgong Gompa to Saldang (3770m) 4-5 hours

Day 13: Saldang to  Day hike to Yangjer Gumba (4590m) 7 hours

Day 14: Saldang to Komash Village 4060m 6 hrs trek

Day 15: Komash Village to Shimen (3850m) 6hrs walk

Day 16: Shimen to Tinje (4110m) 5 hours

Day 17: Tinje Village to Yak Kharka  (4300m) 7 hours

Day 18: Yak Kharka to  Dho Tarap (4240m) 7 hours

Day 19: Dho Tarap (4240m) Rest and Exploring day

Day 20: Dho Tarap to Chhegur Cave (3441m) 6 hours

Day 21: Chhegur Cave to  Tarakot (2537m) 6 hours

Day 22: Tarakot to Juphal (2475) 8hours

Day 23: Fly out from Juphal to Nepalganj and Kathmandu

Day 24: Free day in Kathmandu
