Mugu Dolpo Wild Ft. The Schaller’s Trail & Northern Border of Dolpo
Talcha -Shilenkharka – Upper Dolpo traverse – Bhijer-Shey Gompa – Phoksundo – The Schaller’s Trail – Upper Dolpo-Barbung Valley – Juphal
We link two most scenically stunning treks combining with “The Schaler’s Trail” in North West Nepal. This is an adventure and photogenic journey from Mugu through Upper Dolpo to Phoksundo, and again rolling in Upper Dolpo to Chharka via nearby Tibetan border side descending to Barbung valley and to Juphal.
We start from epic Mugu trek, which passes along the Mugu Karnali river of Mugum Karmarong Rural Municpality, a medley of strikingly greenish gorges beautiful hamlets, ancient timeless gompas and traditional whitewashed villages, eventually reaching the last settlement of Mugu “Shilenchaur”.
Switching from wonderful Mugu Karnali river valley, we enter to the wild high land valleys of Thaju Chaur, Takla Khola, Chyandi Khola, Pung Kharka and descending to Pho village(Upper Dolpo) crossing the three high passes Chayrgo La (5150m), Yala Pass(5414m) and Nyingma Gyalzen La(5563m). Over the other side the beautiful scenic views of Mariyang Mountain Ranges and Palchung Hamga Moutaintain ranges rewards this epic journey.
Alluring Upper Dolpo brings another rewards after a week indulging in wilderness. Which leads from wilderness back to adobe villages and captivating alpine panoramas. We traverse the high country over barren high passes and formidable river valleys picking the best route possible to the remote village of Bhijer then turn east to Karang and Saldang.
Then switch to south fabled Shey Gompa and sacred Crystal Mountain and onwards to the surreal turquoise Phoksundo Lake North Camp. From here, we again take a historical route “The Schaller’s Trail” through rugged gorges of Sagar Khola and Chytang Khola and Tokyau with panoramic views of Kanjiruwa Mountain ranges. Then after we follow, newly built dirt road upto Tinje and we enter to Polte village. The trail further continue to the wilderness northern Tibetan border side before reaching to Chharka village. The trail out through the enchanting Barbung Khola valley of Chharka Tangsung Rural Municipality and ends to Juphal. This is the ultimate trekking adventure in North Western Nepal.
Our Mugu and Upper Dolpo trek is a celebration of these gloriously scenic and culturally unique areas, however, is at the tail end of the golden years of innocent trekking. There has been a jeep track Mugu Talcha to Mangri village for a while. In Dolpo, there’s a dirt track now descends from Tibet through Tinje which has reached Dho-Tarap. At the last from Lasicap the Jeep track is connected to Juphal along the Thuli Bheri River.
