Idea for 2020 (GHT Wild West)…….
GHT Wild West- Darchula to Humla is an exploration and discovering Wild West of Nepal. This wild rout stretches through the foothills of two giant mountains Api Himal and Saipal Himal. The trek also intertwine two distinct geographic settings of Indian pains to the Tibetan Plateau. Logistically challenging and physically demanding this trek is most wilderness and toughest trek part of ‘Great Himalayan Trail’. This untrodden trail is only for those adventure seeker who is addicted for trekking in Himalaya. This trail Darchula to Humla (GHT Wild West) is least explored & trekked by foreigners, that’s why it is obviously a rare adventure trek in Nepal. Up to date only very few (1 or 2 groups) has trekked this Darchula to Simikot (GHT Wild West) route, many who have tried have failed.
Our journey kicks off after flying to the far west Tarai (Dhangadi) and driving along the plains of Terai to steep hills of Darchula. Leaving the road behind we gradually pass through the country side to rougher and steeper arable areas of remote high middle hills with glimpses of the Himalayan giants, friendly villages greetings Namaste!….
Once after reaching in Ghunna, we trek to Chureni School as a first warm up day. Then following days we pass through the two parts of the trek.
Part 1:Darchula to Bajhang (Darchula to Urai La Base Camp)
The first part of the trek winds across Darchula and Bajhang District in Far Western Nepal leading to the border with Tibet. The first part of trek is comparatively slightly easier that second part of trek, which passes through 3 high altitude passes (Pathar Rashi Bhanjyang / Duwal Bhanjyang / Nilkhati Khal) to the Nepal-Tibet border of Urai la (a 5000M+ pass). From the last village of Chetti (in Darchula District) till one reaches Laphri village (Bajhang dist) on the Urai La trail. This trek offers great views of the API-Nampa Himal from Khandeswari. On the Urai La trail, the walk along the valleys of the Seti Nadi is spectacular.
Part 2: Bajhang to Simikot Humla ( Urai La to Simikot Humla)
Second part of trek across from Bajhang Urai La to Simikot Humla is another adventure wilder route of this trek. For about more than a week exploring and discovering very remote corner of North West Nepal, the trail continues between the Api and Saipal ranges. The trail climb around the back of the Kairang range, breathtaking Phirankoph Chuli and 7030m Saipal, then to Chala village. Crossing one more one more ridge this adventure journey halts at Simikot.
Although the highest pass is only around 5200m, and eight passes is nowhere near a pass a day, each pass has a steep ascent and descent, I rate several as heinous, a word I don’t use lightly, and more than that there are a surprising number of sections of the trail including the formidable Seti Gorge so steep they will test your nerves, so uncomfortably steep, it is hard to believe the porters just skip down, shoes seemingly superglued on the slopes. There is also a relentlessness about these sections that mean in an expedition-style trek we end up having short but intense trekking days. Logistically, too, it rates the most challenging with two weeks between villages at our group pace, and there are few companies that will get the logistics right for this. This utter remoteness, the free camping, the wilderness, mean our Wild West trek is one of the most adventurous treks there is (Jamie McGuinness-Project Himalaya)
