Dolpo is largest district of Nepal, it is located in far flung and remote corner of Nepal in the rain shadows of Dhaulagiri and Tibetan plateau. Dolpo is connected with Mustang to the east, Rukum to the west, Jumla and Mugu in the South, and Tibet (China) in the north.
Previously, there were 23 Village Development Committees in the Dolpa district with its headquarters Dunai. But After the promulgation of Nepalese constitution in 2015, Nepal is replaced a unitary government with a federal system of government. This process has made Nepal a federal democratic republic governed with three levels of government: a federal level, seven provinces and 753 local government. Similarly Dolpa falls under eight local government including two municipality and six rural municipality.
As per census of 2011 A.D Dolpo comprises total population: 36700.
Elevation range: 1,525 to 7,751 m.
Total Area: 7,889 Sq.km.
Due to the vast expansion of the land mass; the weather condition varies a lot in different places of the region. As the district falls behind the Himalayas, the precipitation is very low.

Subtropical zone – that covers a very little mass of area
Temperate zone – that covers a few more land area than Subtropical zone
Trans-himalyan – that covers most of the land area more than 70%.
Alpine zone – that covers nearly 8% land area.
Nial zone – that covers nearly 4% of land area.
Trekking in Dolpo region comprises two different routes such as Lower Dolpo Trekking and Upper Dolpo Trekking. Dolpo Trekking Itinerary
Dolpo trekking itinerary consist two different routes such as; Lower Dolpo Trekking itinerary and Upper Dolpo trekking itinerary.
Lower Dolpo trekking itinerary is one of the least difficult trek itinerary in Dolpo Nepal. There are several options within less expensive permit cost. The easiest Lower Dolpo trek is to spend a week exploring between Juphal, Dunai, Chhepka and Phoksundo Lake. Adding another one week one might head to Kagmara pass to Jumla.
The longer and harder lower Dolpo trek itinerary is two weeks trips from Juphal to Dho Tarap and Phoksundo to Juphal. It is also a known as classic Lower Dolpo Circuit trek. If someone is looking for three weeks Lower Dolpo trekking itinerary the Beni Dolpo trek combine with Lower Dolpo could be best option.
