Dolpo Mugu trek is one of the exotic destinations for adventure addicts who keen to do untrodden, untamed, wilderness and challenging trek of West Nepal. Hardly very few trekkers trek along this isolated and unexposed trail of Himalaya. Contemplating long and lonely trails that lead north of Shey Gompa via Phot village, a very last frontier of Nepal, stacked against the Tibetan border. Almost reaching to Tibetan border, the route circle around the northern flank of Kanjiruwa north and south, and by encountering high passes Yambar La 4813m, Nyingma Gyalzen La 5563m, Yala 5414m, Chyargo La 5150m the train bends to west and south to join the Rara Lake.

Highlights of Dolpo Mugu Trek

Phoksundo Lake-A Mythical Lake

The first highlight of ‘Upper Dolpo to Mugu Trek’ is Phoksundo lake which is encountered in the first few days of the trek from Juphal. The lake is lies within the largest national park of Nepal ‘Shey Phoksundo National Park. The stunning lake suddenly changes its color into distinct colors throughout the different times of the day. Adjacent to the lake, a Bon Village called ‘Ringmo’ further enriches the appearance of Lake.

Bon and Buddhist Monasteries

During ‘Upper Dolpo to Rara lake trek’, trekkers are encountered with age-old and ancient Bon and Buddhist monasteries. Bon an ancient pre-Buddhist religion is still existing in the Dolpo region and two historical Bon Monasteries and Gompas such as; Bon Tsova gompa, and Samling Bon Gompa is one of the highlights of this trek.In addition, Shey Gompa, Tsakang Gompa, Gomache Gonpa and Crystal mountain a Buddhist holy Mountain is the another central attraction of Upper Dolpo to Rara trek.

Challenging and Strenuous High Passes

Battling with and conquering the high passes above 5000m plus is additives for making the journey more adventurous. Getting on the top of high passes, respiring of chill cool and fresh air, in sighting of the panoramic view of snowcapped peaks mesmerizes every one's mind and muscles. On way to Phoksundo to Shey Gompa, Kang La 5350m is the first pass that one must encounter. Then the trail from Bhijer to Tiyar Gompa, gradually Yambar La 4813m and then complicated Nyingmagalzen La 5563m is the highest pass of the entire trek. Moreover crossing another two high passes like, Yala Pass 5414m and Chyargo La 5150m conjoins the trail into Mugu Karnali River.

Rara Lake- A magnificent Lake of West Nepal

The last souvenir of the Upper Dolpo to Rara trek is the colossal lake and jewels of Nepal Rara Lake. Rara Lake is the largest lake and famous lake of the country situated on the western side of Jumla and Mugu districts within Rara National Park. Surrounded by lush vegetation and surrounding mountains reflecting in the Lake leave unforgettable memories in your heart.
