Upper Mustang Saribung Expedition trek is a wonderful experience to trekking as well as expedition in the formerly Himalayan Buddhist kingdom ‘Lo’ Upper Mustang and remote Phu village of Nepal.

Tour Details

Upper Mustang Saribung  Expedition Trek, is a newly opened trekking route in 2006 and this journey winds through Upper Mustang and ascent of the Saribung peak 6,328m and connects to remote Phu village. Saribung peak is a part of Mustang Himal and Damodar Himal close to Tibetan plateau and China. Upper Mustang Saribung Expedition Trek is an ideal adventure travel through an impressive high mountain country of Nepal.

Saribung Expedition trek kicks up Jomsom after safe landing from Kathmandu and Pokhara . Jomsom is in the southern part of Mustang (the legendary former Lo) with its capital Lo Manthang where Loba’s cherish their virtually pure Tibetan culture. Houses and temples, as well as the palace and the city wall of Lo Manthang are built of sun-baked “bricks” of mud. The dry and desolate landscape of eroded hills and red pillars of pebbles cemented by the wind feels far more Tibetan than Nepalese.

From Lo Manthang, the team will take a further six days to reach Saribung base camp, located on a plateau at 5,250m and overlooking the foothills of Tibet. From base camp, you will climb to a high camp located on the eastern side of the Saribung La.

From a camp on the moraine, the glacier is accessed and the summit climbed following mostly easy-angled snow slopes. A spare day is included to provide some flexibility, in case of bad weather. After the climb you will trek out to Phu, which is an extremely isolated and famously unspoilt village close to the Tibetan border. This is an area which until recently was prohibited to foreigners. You will visit Tashi Gompa, one of the oldest monasteries in the Nepalese Himalaya. The trek continues to Nar, where there are fabulous views of the Annapurna chain, before continuing to Besisahar, where the team will be met and driven back to Kathmandu.
